Venice in Soft Pastels

February 16th, we are going to explore the beautiful Italian city: Venice in Soft Pastels.

We will draw in the foreground, the wooden posts and the reflections of the sea.

And in the distance, we will draw Venice with its extraordinary monuments as well as the sky with its bluish shades.

Thanks to Soft Pastels, it is possible to translate the depth of planes, color gradients and color intensity.

On program: 

Build the composition: organize the plans, place the horizon and find a balanced framing, work on perspective: make the city more distant, paint water with pastels: movements, reflections, variations of greens and blues, work on the details: boats, pontoons, architectural silhouettes and unify the whole: harmonies of colors, contrasts, and finishes to give coherence to the scene.

Soft Pastels techniques:

• light overlays to keep the brightness

• melted for distant areas and the sky

• sharper and more contrasted touches in the foreground for depth
