Monday Live in Montgermont, with André Méhu
On May 26, we'll be broadcasting live from the Montgermont Watercolor Festival with André Méhu. This live stream will also be an opportunity to enter a raffle to win a box of 24 Sennelier extra-fine watercolor pans.
The subject André offers us is a view of the beach at the old port of Cefalù in Sicily. It's an ideal subject for working on, among other things, "dark and bright," color temperature, and dry brushwork.
Biography André Méhu
Drawing and painting are activities I've been practicing since childhood. I've been painting professionally for about fifteen years. My preferred medium is watercolor, but I also practice gouache, wax pastels, oil pastels, and urban sketching.
It was Samivel's mountain watercolors, as well as the illustrations of the album covers of the music group Yes, by the artist Roger Dean, that gave me the desire to paint in watercolor.
My watercolor work attempts to restore the expressive, aesthetic and poetic qualities of water, which must leave the trace of its passage in the layer of colors. It was an internship in 2009 with the Spanish artist Dolores Bolaños, a student of the Spanish Master Josep Martinez Lozano, who gave me the self-confidence to let myself play with water and pigments and thus cross the border between "watercolor painting" and watercolor.
The other major reference in my work is generally noted for the use of color, inherited from the American Charles Reid. Since 2009 I have collaborated with the French Red Cross and regularly with the press specialized in artistic practice including Pratique des Arts, Plaisir de Peindre, Dessin et Peinture, Artistes Magazine, L’art de l’Aquarelle, and The Art of Watercolor.
I have been exhibiting my paintings since 2010 in various collective exhibitions and in personal exhibitions. My work has been awarded multiple times in France by, among others, the Prix de la Société des Aquarellistes de Bretagne (2011), the Prix de la Ville de Lorient (2014), First Prize of the City of Montgermont (2015) and abroad in April 2021 Finalist of the International Watercolor Master then in December 2021 my paintings were again selected in the TOP 200 Merit Awards of the IWM for the year 2022, and in 2023 First Prize of the International Watercolor Online Festival Freedom Ukraine. My paintings are featured in private collections in France and abroad (Germany, United States, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Italy, Malta).
Furthermore, for ten years, I have been leading artistic practice workshops for individuals in person or remotely and I work with associations and public bodies.
