A relaxed and inspiring moment to explore or refine this vibrant and tactile technique!
In this one-hour session, we’ll explore five essential stages: 1. Sketch – Face structure. 2. First layer – Base tones. 3. Dilution with turpentine – Unify layers. 4. Second layer – Contrast and expression. 5. Knife lifting – Bright highlights.
Required Materials: - Sennelier oil pastels (portrait palette) - Heavy paper (pastel card or prepared surface) - Turpentine or substitute - Soft brush - Painting knife - Pastel pencil or charcoal - Rag or paper towel
Step-by-step Process: 1. Sketch: outline the main shapes. 2. First layer: lay in base colors. 3. Dilution: soften with a brush. 4. Second layer: enhance contrasts. 5. Knife detailing: add light accents. Finishing Touches : - Strengthen shadows and outlines - Add final texture and highlights
